It looks like the pins and plugs are different,  >:(
but all necessary cabling is present.
I'm in touch with Steven to see if we can adapt this.
(I didn't get my car yet from the seller)

Thanks for letting us know.  Not having access to the diesel, I can't say whether that's expected or not.  On the one hand, it obviously has a different engine and therefore a different ECU, but on the other hand I would expect the harness to be the same. And looking at the wiring diagrams it is, only the pins are numbered differently.  However we can't tell from the wiring diagram what physical pins they used.  A photo would be most helpful and if we can identify the pins we may be able to get a harness that works for you.

I'm sure Steven probably didn't know you had a CDI when you bought it, or otherwise he must have discussed with you the possibility that it wouldn't work because I know Steven and I have talked about this in the past that it would be a shot in the dark at best.

Figuring out the pins is only part of the issue as well.  I believe once it is electrically and physically hooked up that the software would probably have to be adjusted as well.

Steven will take care of you, I'm sure.  I know ideally you want the cruise to work... unfortunately I'm not sure we can make that happen.  If we had access to one we could almost certainly identify the appropriate pins (and if not, the install an be achieved through splicing but that would be a last resort for obvious reasons) and make the software adjustments necessary.

Hi,

I shall be purchasing a new cdi in the next few months (just waiting for the cheque to arrive!) and will be very interested in purchasing a cruise control if the problems can be ironed out.

If you haven't resolved the issue by the time I get mine, you are welcome to use it for testing, but I am in the UK!

If that's the case then you should contact Steven over at SmartieParts and let him know.  He went to Rome and got the unit working on the gas European smarts.  In that case it was just software.  He knows what needs to happen to make the cdi work and he travels a lot better than I do.  I still haven't gotten used to this thick Earth atmosphere  :D
