Yes, that's one benefit.  However, the goal is still to get V2 to the same smoothness as V1 (or very close to it) so there really isn't a reason to go back.  The bigger purpose of this is so if you have to (or want to) upgrade/update it for whatever reason... now or in the future... it can be done by downloading a file off this website and using the programmer yourself rather than going through the time and expense of sending us the unit, waiting for us to program, and then waiting for the return shipping.  It should be cost neutral compared to one upgrade by snail mail and a cost benefit if you ever have to do it again. And it would obviously be a time benefit as well.

With 200 being made, I don't think there's any reason to have a wait list but I am glad to know at least one will be used!  SmartieParts will be the sole distributor for these.  All customers that bought from them will get an email when they're ready.  Just prior to that, we'll post here first so you will have an opportunity to be among the first if you wish.

January 15th came and went, and we do not have our programmers in hand.  Actually, I'm getting a little nervous because we've not been in contact with the small outfit that we paid to make them since January 1st.  At that time, they indicated they still expected to deliver on time but since then their phone numbers have been discontinued and emails have bounced.  They did mention they were moving locations in the new year, however, so it may be all OK.  Keep our fingers crossed on this one.

WHOA  :o

Hope everything works out, Art !!!

They may be moving, but does it really take 15+ days to get the phones turned over????

I hope they get up and running; we would all LOVE to get our programmers  ;)

Best of luck.

I've still been unable to get hold of anyone by email or phone.  Doing a bit of digging myself, I discovered an old home phone number of the owner - also disconnected - but that pointed to a woman's name.  I didn't think much of it, until I found his old address and that pointed to the same woman's name so clearly they had lived together in some capacity.  Searching for her name in hopes that she could get me in touch with him... I unfortunately found a very recent obituary and she had died on January 9th of this year.

From my own recent person experience losing someone, I'm going to assume this person is incommunicado for good reason and I'll give him some space for now.  It may be a one-man operation and until he's back and at it, we're out of luck.  I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes our customers, but I think this defines the meaning of "extenuating circumstance".

Ever the sleuth, I finally found good use for Facebook, and managed to make contact with our guy's sister.  She confirmed he moved and provided me with a new phone # and explained the situation regarding the aforementioned death.  It isn't appropriate to go into detail, but suffice it to say he is understandably devastated.  He was almost finished before the move and subsequent events.

Sorry that the situation arose, both for you and particularly for him. But, at least a delay is better than losing your investment. Congratulations, Sherlock! :P

Thank you.

OK, a bit of an update.  I spoke to the fellow on the phone today and wow is he ever going through a lot.  In addition to his loss of a loved one, he's also had all of his computer equipment and other items, including about half of the materials for our programmers, stolen.  On the plus side, he has assured me that he has every intention of completing the contract.  But there will be further delays.

His estimate was that I should have "a few" programmers by the middle of February, with a total of about 100 arriving by the end of February.  The remaining 100, which I'm not sure we really need anyway (obviously depends on how many people want one), would take longer because the microprocessors (which were among the stolen items) are on backorder from the manufacturer.

In other words, its a "doing our best" kind of situation, taking the circumstances into consideration.

I really do appreciate all of your patience with this everyone!

Thanks for the update Art.

It's unfortunate for him and our blessings go out to him.

As posted by mvaldes, delays WITH explanation are NO problem.

Hope all gets worked out for everyone involved.

Again, at least you know you're not out your investment !

Doing "Our Best" is all anyone can expect  :)

I just logged in today to see if the programmers might be ready and was sorry to read about the ongoing problem. Guess I'll check back in mid-February.

Regards,

Dan
