The cruise control itself works great...but I have one hopefully minor problem. Following the installation, the SRS indicator lamp (Supplemental Restraint System -- the icon that looks like a guy with an air bag in his face) now stays on.

I followed the instructions as carefully as I could, and painfully slowly. I think I must have the record for time taken--pretty much all day Sunday.

Full disclosure:  The first time I reconnected the battery, the passenger seat was still out and disconnected; I just couldn't wait to try out the cruise control! And it worked perfectly, but that pesky light turned off after 4 seconds and then came back on and stayed lit. I assumed that when the seat was back in place and reconnected, everything would be fine. Nope. Then I thought that maybe the system needed to power up with the right starting conditions, so I disconnected the battery again, and after about an hour reconnected it. Still no luck.

I'm hoping that maybe the system might just need a reset. I'd really be grateful for any ideas that anyone might have. I can't bear the thought of reversing the installation...and I couldn't really claim not to have touched anything.  Besides, the CC works so well, and will be so necessary!

P.S. Am I the only one who routinely fires the windshield wipers, usually the front but sometimes the back, when pressing the CC contact button?  :P

You'll get used to the windshield thing... just means you're probably pressing the button too hard and transferring the force forward or backward.  It is a very light actuating button.

Onto your SRS problem.

SRS systems are pretty finicky.  If you EVER have ANY SRS component disconnected while the juice is flowing, it permanently trips the light and you won't get it back until you go to the dealer.  Typical scan tools (such as the ScanGauge II) can NOT rest SRS lights.

Just say you don't know why it came on :)   They shouldn't charge you a thing and just reset it under warranty.  Be honest with them if you'll feel better about it, but there's a chance they may charge you an hour's labor.  If you do go that route, insist that they don't waste time diagnosing anything and just clear the light since you know what caused it.

In the end, I just admitted my mistake. I figured they'd somehow notice the cruise control, and then there might be all kinds of unpleasantness. Plus, the center manager, whom I knew, and whose arm I was going to twist, had quit smartUSA.
They charged me a nominal half hour, and didn't waste time looking for the cause. Everything's fixed, but that was still $70 I could have done without spending.  :'(
Teach me to be impatient; but at least anyone reading this forum can avoid my mistake.  8)
Now...on to the feedback section, to talk about that s-weet little unit!
